Schoolteacher held for raping Class XI girl in Kashmir

A schoolteacher has been arrested in north Kashmir’s Kreeri area for allegedly raping a minor girl and subsequently attempting to abort her pregnancy. The 17-year-old girl is studying in Class XI in a Government run secondary school where the accused teacher, also her neighbour, befriended and lured her into sexual misconduct.

Police said the teacher identified as Sheraz Ahmad Zargar was caught on April 15 when he accompanied the girl to a local hospital and pleaded with the doctors to terminate pregnancy. The doctors grew suspicious and informed the police.

Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain confirmed Zargar’s arrest. He said that a case has been registered and the accused has been held under court remand.

The school education department is yet to take action against the accused teacher.
