Avengers Infinity War off to incredible start in India, shows completely sold out

As expected, Avengers Infinity War is off to an incredible start in India, with sold shows being reported from across the country.

Avengers: Infinity War is predicted to make over $450 million worldwide in its opening weekend, and an unusually large chunk of that haul could come from India. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the Marvel superhero movie is selling out shows across the country on its opening day, and is well on its way to a big debut.

“Time to REJOICE and CELEBRATE... #AvengersInfinityWar takes a zabardast start across India... That was expected, right?... But the Housefull boards and incredible footfalls from East to West and from North to South have brought a wave of optimism back!” he wrote on Twitter on Friday.

The Marvel movie was unleashed upon the world on April 27 after months of buildup around the fate of its characters, who must face Thanos, their most formidable adversary yet. It was previously reported that Infinity War was pacing behind only Baahubali: The Conclusion in terms of advance tickets sold. Several shows for the weekend were sold out in a matter of a few hours after bookings were opened on Sunday.

“The response to ticket bookings for Avengers: Infinity War has been extremely encouraging across formats. And while, as expected, the craze for watching the film on an IMAX screen is huge, the sales have been remarkable even for the 3D format,” Ashish Saksena, Chief Operating Officer - Cinemas, BookMyShow, said in a statement to IANS.

Box office projections in the US have been ramped up to $240 million in the opening weekend. The current record is $247 million that Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015.
