Police are searching for a Westport man who is accused of trying to cash counterfeit checks in and around Fall River.

FALL RIVER - Police are searching for a Westport man who is accused of trying to cash counterfeit checks in and around Fall River.

Police allege that Paul Diogenes, 46, of 83 American Legion Highway, has cashed counterfeit checks in Greater Fall River and Providence. Fall River police spokesman Detective John Robinson said the checks "look authentic but are in fact fraudulent."

Diogenes is wanted for identity fraud, attempt to commit a crime, forgery, uttering and larceny over $250.
