I was pleased to see The Times give Aaron Bernstine's HB-2030, concerning the electrical service in Ellwood City, some considerable editorial attention on Sunday.

I object to Bernstine's initiative, had communicated that to him directly, have asked Sen. Elder Vogel Jr. to oppose it, and requested that Gov. Tom Wolf veto it if the bill passes both chambers.

The other bill, HB-1405, covering all Pennsylvanian municipalities with electric departments, is objectionable enough, but a separate bill singling out Ellwood City alone is a travesty, pandering to Bernstine's local base, and seems an "irregular" legislative initiative at best.

I've resided in Ellwood City proper almost 40 years and have always been aware of the revenue aspect of borough electrical service. It is at least as fair a system as property tax, especially since local government options are so limited and our tax base so greatly diminished. We do not need the additional chaos this change would inflict.
