Although the tourism sector currently generates only 10% of the world’s jobs, if well tapped, its potential could be a major source of employment and entrepreneurship for many.

Argentina’s Minister of Tourism Gustavo Santos said, “We need to promote the role that tourism has in shaping the future of our world as the sector that will create more jobs in the coming decade”.

There’s a need to be an integrated approach for future work in tourism, including development and implementation of new policies by various governments and related stakeholders. These include embracing innovation and technology, adapting advanced digital transformations, and fostering new skills development and education to create new jobs.

The UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili called upon tourism leaders to “embrace the technological revolution and unleash its potential to create more and better jobs in our sector, making tourism a true pillar of the G20 objectives of inclusive and sustained growth”.
