Furman: It's been a strange season

2018-04-27 11:47

Cape Town - Dean Furman says it's been a strange season for SuperSport United who are playing for their ABSA Premiership survival having won the MTN8 in the opening weeks of their 2017/18 campaign.

The SuperSport captain admits that fatigue took a toll in the squad due to the amount of football they played in reaching the final of the CAF Confederations Cup the previous season.

Matsatsantsa will be playing to avoid the relegation play-offs in their remaining two games.

Furman feels his side needs to show the same fighting spirit they displayed in Wednesday's win over Free State Stars to get the better of Chippa United on Saturday.

Furman told SuperSport: “We discussed the character that we have shown over the last 18 months to play cup finals, fighting in the continent and we have to show that same character to win games and get out of this sticky situation.

“To come back on Wednesday was certainly a sign of that character and hopefully that’s what will see us through in the next two games.

“It’s been a tough season for us. It started so well, it’s certainly been one of the strangest seasons. We got to the final of CAF Confederations Cup, Won the MTN8; we started the league and were on target in the early stages.

“All the hype was around us, there was so much excitement then the fatigue factor hit us and we had injuries to a number of key players. We really suffered and of course we had loss of form and loss of confident.

“It’s been a number of things that have really affected us, but hopefully with that win on Wednesday we can find that little bit of confidence that can see us through.”
