The 8th Annual Decorator Show House will be on display all this weekend, starting at 11 a.m. today at 3219 Martin.

“The house doesn’t look that large from the outside, said Janice Stine, sponsorship co-chairman for the Decorator Show House and helper to Joellen Tritton who is chair of the event committee, “but the master suite is the size of many homes.”

The Decorator Show House will be open from 1 a.m. to 6 p.m. today; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. “The money that we raise goes towards operating expenses for the Faith Refuge,” Stine said.

The home is owned by Rik and Shaye Lipscomb, who had lived there after they had it redecorated. “It’s just lovely. It had been on the market for close to a year and when we asked, they graciously allowed us to use the home.”

The huge home will be filled with wonderful furniture and furnishings, and each of its rooms will reflect the stylish and artful touches of area decorator.

The Decorator Show House event began in 2011 after Shirley Craft and Kristen Gossett came up with the idea as a fundraiser for Faith Refuge, the same year the nonprofit opened.

Each year, the members of the event committee find a home that’s been on the market for a while, and then have area decorating businesses rent “or purchase” a room to decorate it. “They decorate whatever they want to, even the yard spaces,” said Stine.

There are numerous decorators that will be involved in the 2018 event. The Containery will do the dining room. Hello Again! will decorate the formal living room. Golden Bee Consignments is doing the den. The north bedroom will be decorated by Phyllis Landrum Creative Accents, and the east bedroom is a joint project by Eastern Treasures and Jane McCown Interiors.

Mik’s is decorating the kitchen, and Bluebonnet Hill Estates Antiques and Restoration the sunroom. Bluebonnet will also have an antique market in the garage, and Karen Stamper Art will hang art in the hall. Old World Pottery will provide art for the front yard and porch.

Lipscomb Chevrolet will provide new cars in the extensive driveway.

The master suite will be done by Clark Design and Renovation, and it’s the third Decorator Show House for Will Clark’s company to do, though it’s his first since 2015.

“We have the whole master suite,” Clark said with a laugh, “and it’s really huge.” Clark described the bedroom component of the project as “a completely functioning pretty master bedroom, 19 by 23 feet. It has good carpet and nice paint color.”

Clark will decorate the bedroom space much like he would, if a client had asked him to. “But, I honestly won’t be changing it much,” he said, unlike the bathroom he completely remodeled in 2015 for the 2107 Avondale house. “The remodel was great,” he said, “and it showed what we do well.”

Clark will break down the remaining space of the master suite area (total about 1,300 square feet). In a small office, near the bedroom, he will set up a markdown section for things like pillows and lamps that he had purchased at market for his new Brook Street studio, but which didn’t fit.

The rest of the suite has a hallway leading to a male and female dressing rooms, a large tub and a shower room with two huge closets. “We will probably do two concepts on how you might decorate the area,” Clark said.

“One of my goals is to show people you can change the price of your renovation by what materials you choose. There will be an expensive and moderate price, and it will look similar”

Clark said he will be at the Decorator Show House over the weekend to talk to people and explain “what we do, and why we love to do it.”
