BEAVER FALLS — City firefighters will have some shiny new equipment later this year.
City council on Tuesday approved the purchase of a new $620,000 firetruck. City Manager Charles Jones said this is the first new fire apparatus for the city in decades.
"This is our first new truck in 20-plus years," Jones said.
The truck will cost the city about $620,000, Jones said, which will be paid for using a bond purchase. The fire association also contributed to the cost with a "decent amount" of donations, Jones said.
The new pumper truck will replace an older vehicle. An even older firetruck will be removed from service, Jones said, and sold.
The truck will have foaming capabilities, Jones said.
"I'm told that gas containers in vehicles rupture more easily now, and this will assist with that," Jones said.
The set up of the new truck will also provide "ease for getting hoses off the trucks," he said.
Fire department officials expect the new truck to be operational in November.
