Students on school bus in Cape Coral escape fire after driver’s quick thinking

A school bus caught fire Friday morning on SE 8th  Street in Cape Coral, the Cape Coral Fire Department said. 

The bus driver heard a noise in  the engine and saw smoke coming from under the hood, according to the fire department's Facebook post. 

The driver, who was not named, immediately stopped and successfully and safely evacuated 25 students who were on the bus.

The driver and students were not injured, the fire department said. 

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and another bus took the students to school.

The fire was ruled accidental due to a mechanical failure, according to the fire department.
