Shahkot by-poll put on hold the demands of teachers
Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga): The Punjab Government has put on hold the demands of teachers till the result of Shahkot by-poll, 4 June. A series of meetings were held by the Chief Minister with 21 outfits of teachers across the Punjab. Sources told that the CM has agreed in principle to accept the demand to amend the transfer policy as well as rationalisation, while the issue to regularise the teachers has been put on hold. CM has also directed to release the outstanding salaries of teachers. CM will hold next meeting with teachers on June 4, while the Education Minister will hold meeting with some teacher’s outfit on May 2. After the meeting, talking to reporters, the leaders of various teachers’ Union have threatened to expedite their agitation if their demands are not meet.After coming into power, it was the first meeting of CM with protesting teachers. Earlier the meeting was postponed two-three times due to the engagements of CM. Various delegations under the banner of ‘Sikhya Bachayo Manch’ and Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha Punjab were held meetings with CM Captain Amrinder Singh at letter’s residence. Meetings continued till 90 minutes. Apart CM and FM, Political Secretary Captain Sandeep Sandhu, Principal Secretary Tejveer Singh, Secretary Education Krishan Kumar, DPIs and other officers were also present in the meeting. While the CM has collected inputs from Education officers in this regard. Interestingly, no teacher oppose ‘Padho Punjab-Padhayo Punjab ‘campaign, initiated by the Education Secretary, but 2-3 teachers demanded to depute staff for such campaign from officers and non-teaching staff. Interestingly, few teachers also appreciated the campaign saying that other private schools in the State are seeking syllabus.
