VARANASI: Over 40 persons mostly children fell ill after consuming sweets in a
marriage function at Rampur village in Bairia area of Ballia district on Thursday night. They were taken to
the community health centre at Sobarsa for treatment. The
food safety department took samples of sweets from the shops for testing.
According to reports, the marriage function was held at the house of
Virendra Paswan. People started vomiting after consuming sweets (Rajbhog), which was purchased the shops in Bairia area. Immediately they were taken to the hospital. They returned home after recovering from illness.
The food safety department swung into action after the incident and took samples of sweets. The chief food safety officer of Ballia
Rampal Singh said that five samples of sweets were taken from shops for testing. Action would be taken against the shop owners if contamination is detected in test report, he said.
