RK Bharadwaj and police force conducted a raid at the Varanasi district jail in
Chowkaghat area on Friday. As many as eight mobile phones and nine sim cards were recovered from prisoners during the raid.
"We were receiving information regarding the use of mobile phones in the jail. A surprise raid was conducted to take necessary action in this regard," said the DM adding that a total of eight mobile phones and nine sims cards were recovered. Besides, some diaries containing phone numbers were also recovered.
The DM said that an FIR has been registered in this regard, and investigation is on to find out if there is involvement of jail staff in it. He said that letter would be written to the government for installation of jammer in the jail for
4G phones. The present jammer can only effective on 2G and 3G services.
