‘DP meant to fund BJP’s poll campaign’

The Development Plan (DP) 2034 is designed to fund the Karnataka and Lok Sabha elections by selling Mumbai to builders, the Congress alleged on Thursday.

“The only aim of this DP is to fund the BJP’s election campaigns by selling Mumbai to builders. The government’s decision to increase floor space index will only benefit builders and lead to further choking of the city,” said Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant. The DP, Mr. Sawant said, does not answer traffic and civic issues. “This document is an example of how to make a mockery of the planning process,” he said.

The NCP too questioned Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ absence while announcing the DP. State NCP chief Sunil Tatkare said the urgency shown by the government to announce the DP was only to divert the attention from the Nanar oil refinery controversy. “This is the first time the city’s DP has been announced by two bureaucrats and not the CM. The announcement of sanctioning the DP was made on Twitter, which is unprecedented.”
