The pick is in. And it's a safety.

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Virginia Tech safety Terrell Edmunds with 28th overall pick on Thursday night.

In three seasons with the Hokies, Edmonds accumulated 196 tackles in 35 games. In 10 games in 2017, he finished with 61 tackles, including 33 solo, with two interceptions, 1.5 sacks and four passes defensed.

The 6-foot-1, 217-pound Edmunds ran a 4.47 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and had a 41.5 inch vertical. Edmunds shut down his junior season to have surgery on his left shoulder.

In 2016, he played 14 games and was an honorable mention All-ACC selection. He finished with 89 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss and four interceptions.

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier, who suffered a spinal injury in a December 2017 that required spinal stabilization surgery, walked to the podium to announce the pick.
