Indore: Eight MIMS students go on indefinite hunger strike


Indore: As many as eight students of Modern Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) sat on indefinite hunger strike on Thursday while other students continued their agitation at Regal Square. One of the agitating students Monica Gangwal fainted and fell ill during the agitation and was admitted to Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital as she had low blood pressure and low pulse rate.

One of the aggrieved students Mayank Vaid said, “We have been agitating for our demands for more than a week and the official are not paying any attention to our demands which forced us to sit on hunger strike.” He said that Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had also raised the issue with union health minister JP Nadda but to no avail. “Nadda had also given us assurance to look into our demands as it is the matter of our future but it seems that he too forgot the assurance given.”

College administration had offered the students to conduct classes in Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Science for few months. “We requested the government and district administration to take over college for saving future of 140 students,” Sourabh Mandloi, another agitating student said. MLA Usha Thakur also met the agitating students and assured them to raise their issue with the government.


Students of MIMS have been protesting against the college administration for over a month and they started demonstration at Regal Square more than a week ago. Students have been protesting against college administration as no classes have been conducted for six months and the facilities in the colleges are not up to the mark. College staff is also on strike since November as they are not getting salary.

MY Hospital doctors misbehaved with us: Students Students of MIMS alleged that the doctors of MY Hospital misbehaved with them when they reached at the hospital with the girl who had fallen sick during the protest. “The doctors shouted at us for going there again and again to the hospital. We told them about our problem but they did not listen and misbehaved with us,” Mayank Vaid said.
