Fairmount Center for the Arts seeks entries for exhibition

Fairmount Center for the Arts will host the 42nd annual Fairmount Art Exhibition, May 29 through June 7.

Artists are invited to submit artwork 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 22 at the center, 8400 Fairmount Road in Russell Township, according to a news release. Judging will be May 23.

Judges for this year’s exhibition are artists Mary Hobbs and Joe Leonard. Entry forms are available at the center or at www.fairmountcenter.org, or they can be mailed by first calling 440-338-3171.

Categories are judged separately and include: Painting, Watercolor, Photography, Graphics, Three-Dimensional, and Fiber.

• Painting includes oil and acrylic with watercolor as its own category.

• Photography includes traditional, computer-enhanced photographs and digital prints.

• Graphics includes all media drawings, pastels, original hand-pulled prints, collage, and digital imaging (created in computer).

• The three-dimensional category includes all media sculpture, wood, glass, pottery, and jewelry.

• Fiber includes quilting, weaving, and soft sculpture.

Artists may submit up to three original works at $15 per entry.

The 13 monetary awards include: Best of Show and First and Second place in each of the six categories. Honorable Mentions are also awarded as Jurors’ choice.

Artists accepted in the exhibition may list pieces for sale and all art must remain on display until the closing of the show. Fairmount Center retains a 30 percent commission on sales, the release stated.

An opening reception for this exhibition will be 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 26. An awards presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

Following the opening reception, the Fairmount Art Exhibition will be open for viewing the week of May 29: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m.; and the week of June 4: Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All events related to this exhibition are free and open to the public.
