Michael Thomas Laughon of Lynchburg, Va., passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Mike was born on September 23, 1960, at Red Stone Arsenal, Alabama, and grew up in Bedford, Virginia. He attended Liberty High School and graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1983. Upon graduation from VMI, he served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and attained the rank of Major. The majority of his professional career was spent with Laughon and Johnson, Inc. in Bedford, Va. When he was not at work you could find him cooking for family and friends, out with his Farmville hunting crew, working on his 'project of the week' or putting on a spectacular tailgate during a VMI football game. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh and endless series of stories, his love/hate relationship with VMI and Miami Dolphins football, his culinary skill and his deep devotion to friends and family. He loved them well. He is survived by his wife and sparring partner of 33 years, Tance Anderson Laughon; son, Holmes Philpott Laughon; brother, Mark Alan Laughon (Melinda); niece, Ashley Laughon; and nephews, Tyler Laughon, Harrison Danze (Hannah), Robert Danze, Noah Bailey and Aaron Bailey. He was the son of Janice Tuck Laughon and the late Thomas D. Laughon. The family would like to thank the staff at MCV/VCU Medical Center and their many friends for their help, guidance and support during this time. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, 1215 V.E.S. Road in Lynchburg. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
