This came as welcome news for downtown businesses like Red Rose Pizzeria. They’ve been busy through construction and except an even bigger push once the casino opens.
For some regional residents, this came as a surprise after speculation MGM was thinking about buying Wynn’s Everett casino.
With the opening of MGM Springfield comes their boutique-style five-story hotel with as many as 250 guestrooms and MGM events and concerts that were held at the MassMutual Center.
Two things Springfield businesses are optimistic would drive tourists to them. The opening of MGM Springfield will also usher in an increased police presence to the downtown area.
