Krushnachandra bust garlanded in city

Members of the Utkal Sammilani central committee garlanded the statue of former Parala King and the first Prime Minister of Odisha province Krushnachandra Narayan Deb on the occasion of his 126th birth anniversary at the Old Bus Stand here on Thursday.

Later, a meeting was held at the Unit -II office where Sammilani general secretary Dr Radhanath Praharaj presided. The speakers on the occasion recounted the Krushnachandra’s contribution in the formation of the Odisha province and how he was hurt when Paralakhemundi and Jeypore did not figure in the new province. He followed up with the British Government on the matter, attended the Gold Table Conference and succeeded in including the two areas in the Odisha State. During his tenure as the PM of the State for two times, Krushnachandra also did a lot for the development of education. He played a pioneering role in the establishment of the Utkal University and the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, they said.

Among others, Jitendra Kumar Padhi, Tapas Ranjan Mishra, Abani Bhusan Mishra, Girija Bhusan Mahapatra, Trinath Samantray, Bharat Chandra Jena, Dr Kashinath Ratha, Dr Banambar Parida, Jugal Kishore Nayak and Bairagi Sethi were present.

The Sammilani’s Maneshwar unit also held a garlanding ceremony at the AG Square. President Dillip Dashsharma presided over the function. Among others, vice president Sital Chandra Mohanty, joint

secretary Ashok Kumar Paltasingh, Er Siba Prasad Mishra, Kailash Panigrahi, Maheswar Biswal,

Gopi Mohann Patnaik, Akhaya Jethi, Khetra Mohan Nayak, Ajaya Kanungo, Subrat Mahapatra, Dipti Mayee Nayak, Adityaditya and Dr Pramod Kumar Biswal were present. Bande Utkal Janani was sung and ‘Long live Krushnachandra Gajapati’ slogan was given.
