Crystal man killed in single-vehicle crash with tree

Investigators estimate a Crystal man crashed into a tree and died approximately one to three hours before his smashed car was seen and reported to police early Friday.

Troopers were sent to the scene near Riverdale just after 6 a.m., state police said in a press release.

“Upon arrival, the driver of the vehicle and sole occupant was found deceased apparently from injuries sustained in the crash,” troopers from the Lakeview Post said.

A medical examiner later estimated the crash likely occurred between 3 and 5 a.m.

Misael Valle, 33, a native of Cuba living in Crystal, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was driving on Douglas Road near Tamarack Road in Montcalm County’s Richland Township when his car left the roadway and hit a tree.

Valle was not wearing a seat belt.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be factors in the crash.
