60 rebels surrender after ‘being fed up’ with Maoist ideology

Sixty Maoists from insurgency-hit Abujhmarh region  under Narayanpur Police Station jurisdiction surrendered before Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IGP)  Vivekananda Sinha and other senior police officials in Narayanpur on Thursday.

The Maoists surrendered with seven rifles.

Sinha informed that the Maoists included 40 men and 20 women. The surrendered Maoists included two minors. They were fed up with the  hollow Maoist ideology and hence decided to join the mainstream, the official said.

“The pressure mounted by the police and security forces and the attractive rehabilitation policy of the state government also compels the Maoists to surrender”, the IGP said.

They will be now be provided government relief and benefits under the rehabilitation policy, he added.

The surrendered Maoists are from Kanagaon and Kohkameta villages and were members of Kanagaon, IIrakbhatti and Kohkameta Jan Militia who surrendered under leadership of Kanagaon Jan militia Commander, Lachhu Yadav, 35 S/O Manglu Yadav and Kohkameta Jan-Militia Commander Sukhraj Kawachi, 22 S/O Rajuram Kawachi.
