VARANASI: A newly married woman allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at Jamuawa Harirampur village in Kandhrapur area of Azamgarh district late on Thursday.
In her dying statement, the woman accused her in-laws of torturing her for dowry. The police arrested three persons in this connection and booked them under section 304B (dowry death) of IPC.
According to reports, the 22-year-old woman, who married Sandeep Shukla 10 months ago, set herself on fire after pouring kerosene on her body. She was taken to the district hospital in critical condition.
The police also reached there after getting information.
The woman succumbed to the burns during treatment on Friday. Her body was sent for postmortem.
Kandharapur SO Sarita Singh told TOI over phone that three persons were arrested. Azamgarh SP Ajay Kumar Sahni said that the matter was being investigated.
