Live Now : Toss won by Kolkata Knight Riders (decided to bowl)

Highlights

21:18(IST)

SIX! Shreyas Iyer hits one straight and it goes through Uthappa's hands. Really ordinary fielding that, should have been taken and it goes for a six. He follows that with one over long off. DD are 158/3

21:12(IST)

Excellent over from Piyush Chawla here given the circumstances, concedes just 3 runs in that one, bowling flatter and quicker through the air. Delhi Daredevils are 143/3 after 16 overs.

21:10(IST)

Shreyas Iyer contines to deal in boundaries there, he is looking for the short ball and Russell obliges. He slaps him over long off for a maximum. DD are 140/3 after 15 overs.

21:09(IST)

WICKET! Rishabh Pant also departs now, again the ball stays a bit low and hits him on the glove, ballooning up in the air and Karthik takes the catch. DD are 127/3

21:02(IST)

WICKET! Prithvi Shaw departs, he was looking good here but this one from Chawla stays a bit lower than expected. Superb innings though from him, he departs for 62 off 44 balls. Delhi are 127/2 after 14 overs.

20:58(IST)

SIX! It was turning out to be a fine over from Mitchell Johnson, till he pitched one short - one too many i would say - and Prtihvi Shaw deposits it into the stands, 12 runs coming off the over and Delhi are 118/1 after 13 overs.

20:52(IST)

He is the Joint youngest player along with Sanju Samson to score a fifty in the IPL.

Both were 18 years and 169 days old when they scored their first fifty in the IPL.

20:49(IST)

50! Prithvi Shaw completes half-century here, he is looking totally comfortable here in high pressure environment. He becomes the joint youngest half-century scorer in IPL, DD are 94/1 after 11 overs.

20:46(IST)

Narine starts the proceedings after the timeout, conceding 7 runs from the over. Shaw nearing a memorable 50 here. Daredevils are 84/1 after 10 overs here.

20:41(IST)

Excellent from Prithvi Shaw, first a boundary which he times perfectly behind square and then whipping one for six off Mitchell Johnson! Shaw looking really good here. Delhi are 77/1 after 9 overs as we break for a strategic timeout.

20:35(IST)

Andre Russell comes into the attack now, Daredevils seem to have just cooled off a bit after a blistering start. Just 5 runs from the over and DD are 64/1 after 8 overs.

20:30(IST)

WICKET! Shivam Mavi strikes, KKR needed it badly here. Colin Munro looked to be hitting the ball well but its a full delivery. Munro gives himself room but only manages to get an inside edge as it clatters onto the stumps. Munro departs for quickfire 33 off just 18 balls. DD are 59/1 after 7 overs.

20:26(IST)

0/57 :This is DD’s highest powerplay score this season

This is also the first time DD haven’t lost a wicket in the Powerplay this season

20:24(IST)

That's the end of the powerplay overs then, excellent start for Delhi this. The opening partnership is already worth 57 runs here, Johnson is introduced into the attack and Delhi pick 6 runs from the over. DD are 57/0 after 6 overs.

20:19(IST)

Sunil Narine comes into the attack for Kolkata as they try to stop the Delhi openers but no respite still! Munro gets down on one knee and deposits the ball into the stands. Daredevils pick 11 runs from the over and are 51/0 after 5 overs.

20:16(IST)

Shivam Mavi comes into the attack, but he is treated with the same disdain here. Excellent over for Daredevils as they pick up a couple of boundaries, first Shaw punching one past point and then Munro showing brute power. Delhi are 40/0 after 4 overs.

20:11(IST)

Four boundaries in the over for Delhi Daredevils, both the openers getting a couple of boundaries there. Again, Chawla a bit on the short side. Delhi pick 18 runs in the over and are 31/0 after 3.

20:08(IST)

SIX! Short ball from Kuldeep Yadav and Munro deposits it into the stands, great hit but that was a really poor delivery. Short and giving the Kiwi plenty of time. DD are 13/0 after 2 over

20:03(IST)

Piyush Chawla starts the proceedings for Kolkata Knight Riders and he starts well, just 3 runs conceded of the first over and Delhi Daredevils are 3/0 after 1 over.

20:01(IST)

Daredevils will look to start solidly here, there opening pairs have been a real let down and with Gambhir missing, added responsibility on Munro and Shaw

19:46(IST)

Shreyas Iyer: There's some pressure on us, but this is also a great opportunity for me. We need to win 7 out of our remaining eight games, it's tough but not impossible. Gautam Gambhir isn't playing, so is Dan Christian. Vijay Shankar and Colin Munro are in

19:43(IST)

Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, Dinesh Karthik(w/c), Andre Russell, Shubman Gill, Mitchell Johnson, Piyush Chawla, Shivam Mavi, Kuldeep Yadav

19:42(IST)

Delhi Daredevils (Playing XI): Prithvi Shaw, Colin Munro, Glenn Maxwell, Rishabh Pant(w), Shreyas Iyer(c), Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, Liam Plunkett, Amit Mishra, Avesh Khan, Trent Boult

19:31(IST)

TOSS: Dinesh Karthik wins the toss and KKR elects to bowl first.

19:18(IST)

The toss is just few minutes away now and it will once again have a huge bearing on the result of the match. Both teams will look to win the toss and bowl first as noone knows in the IPL these days as to what is a sub par score.

19:04(IST)

There seems to be no end to Delhi Daredevils' misery after star all-rounder Chris Morris pulled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League owing to a back injury. South Africa's right-arm fast medium Junior Dala has been called in as replacement for Morris, who played four games aggregating 46 runs and three wickets to show for his efforts. Dala came into prominence during the recent series against India, where he played all three T20 Internationals taking seven wickets. He was one of the finds for South Africa in the T20 series which they lost 1-2. Dala will be wearing jersey No 3 for Daredevils.

18:59(IST)

Having lost to Kings XI Punjab by DLS method in their last match, KKR will look to make amends in this clash against Delhi. "We are in the mid table now, the other end would not have been nice. We have played some good cricket. It's nice to get a few days off and regroup in Delhi and hope to return to winning ways.”

18:54(IST)

With Nitish Rana emerging as one of the biggest gains of the new-look Kolkata Knight Riders, chief coach Jacques Kallis has said they always backed the Delhi youngster fully and it is paying off. Displaying poise and panache in equal measure, the left-handed batsman has been the backbone of KKR batting and his part-time off-spin has come handy in giving breakthroughs. "We had given him a message that he will be a settled member in the side and he just needs to showcase his talent. We are backing him 100 per cent and certainly it has paid off.”

18:49(IST)

The Shreyas Iyer led team have also scored the least runs at the top of the order in comparison to the rest of the teams. Second to them in this matter is their next opponent the Kolkata Knight Riders. Delhi, who have lost the most number of wickets (10) in the powerplay so far will hope the new captain and the change in ideas will help solve this problem, as they look to turn things around and save their campaign.

18:34(IST)

In six matches, the openers have managed to score more than 30 runs together only once which is when Jason Roy and Gambhir got going and Delhi eventually won the match against the Mumbai Indians.  The opening slot has been a big problem for the Ricky Ponting coached side as they have managed scores below 15 four times so far.

Preview:

Struck by the crisis emanating from Gautam Gambhir's resignation as captain, a beleaguered Delhi Daredevils face a herculean task to revive their IPL campaign when they clash with Kolkata Knight Riders under young skipper Shreyas Iyer. Gambhir leaving captaincy midway into the tournament does not guarantee resurrection of the side but the left-hander's decision has given the team management a chance to infuse new life into the franchise with new ideas. Gambhir's rough patch, along with poor form of other batsmen, has resulted in over-reliance on young Rishabh Pant. The team has lost five of its six matches and is languishing at the bottom of the points table. Gambhir the batsman would still be critical if a turnaround has to happen for the Daredevils but it remains to be seen if he remains in the playing XI. The hosts are now in an unenvious position where they need to win seven of the remaining eight matches to be in Play-offs contention. The 23-year-old Iyer is faced with the enormous task of turning it around for the team as a leader. The young batsman showed that he has the heart for a fight when he took it upon himself to steer the side against Kings XI Punjab. He almost pulled it off but fell short by one big shot. However, it was a performance which indicated that he is not averse to taking responsibility, which is the need of the hour for the Daredevils. The Daredevils have not been particularly lucky on the fitness front either with Jason Roy (side strain) and Chris Morris (back problem) recovering. The only game Daredevils have won so far was shaped by Roy's unbeaten whirlwind knock of 91 on debut. A big player not to have clicked for them is Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell has scores of 17, 13, 47, 4 and 12 so far and it is absolutely imperative for the Daredevils that he regains his form. On the other hand, KKR are also struggling a bit with their bowling. But what has worked reasonably well for them is their batting. Their willow-wielders have been contributing consistently, twice taking the side past the 200-mark but bowlers have struggled to defend even big totals.

KKR have won three matches and lost as many to sit fourth in the table. The last time the two sides clashed, it was KKR which dominated by putting 200 runs on the board to win by a comprehensive 71-run margin. It's a spin-heavy attack for KKR with Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav and Piyush Chawla doing the bulk of the job. The slow conditions at the Feroze Shah Kotla are likely to suit this combination while the young Shivam Mavi and England's Tom Curran would spearheading the pace attack. Australian quick Mitchell Johnson has got only two games so far. Andre Russell has done a fine all-round job for them and the West Indian continues to be a vital cog for them. His brute power would be of immense use on Kotla pitch where the ball may not come on to the bat easily. The conditions will testing for KKR batsmen. Squads: Delhi Daredevils: Shreyas Iyer (C), Chris Morris, Rishabh Pant, Glenn Maxwell, Gautam Gambhir, Jason Roy, Colin Munro, Mohammed Shami, Amit Mishra, Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tewatia, Vijay Shankar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem, Daniel Christian, Jayant Yadav, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Trent Boult, Manjot Kalra, Abhishek Sharma, Sandeep Lamichhane, Naman Ojha, Sayan Ghosh and Liam Plunkett.
