SYCAMORE – A convicted sexual predator who was arrested for attending his girlfriend’s son’s spring musical was released on his signature Thursday from the DeKalb County Jail.
Andrew S. Applegate, 28, of the first block of North Street in Sandwich, is charged with unlawful presence within a school zone. If convicted, he could face a year to three years in prison. If he does any prison time, he’d also have to serve a year of parole.
A resident notified police that on April 17, Applegate attended the spring musical at Sandwich High School, 515 E. Lines Road, Sandwich, and Applegate admitted to police that he knew he wasn’t supposed to be there. He told Judge Philip Montgomery during a bond hearing Thursday that he lives with his girlfriend and his child.
According to the Illinois Sex Offender Registration site, Applegate was convicted in Ohio for a charge comparable to aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Illinois. The site said he was 21, and the victim was 15.
He’s due back in court at 9 a.m. June 29.
