Congress party across the country is facing a tough time to come in power. After losing power in almost around 20 states, Congress is trying to rope in popular faces from the entertainment industry. One of such face is Mahesh Manjrekar, the popular actor, director, television anchor and leader is expected to join Congress.
According to Mid-Day, Mahesh Manjrekar would be taken into the party fold at a grand function in the first week of May in Mumbai. Earlier, Manjrekar had contested 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North West. Manjrekar contested 2014 election on a Raj Thackeray-led MNS ticket. The actor has stayed away from politics since his loss in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
The actor is said to be a classmate of former Maharashtra Chief Minister and State Congress Chief Ashok Chavan. Mahesh Manjrekar has recently started anchoring the first edition of the Marathi version of the popular reality show Big Boss. The actor is well known in both Marathi and Hindi film industry. He is also popular among Marathi manoos, and hence could help Congress gather Marathi votes.
