Campaign against seasonal disease intensified in rural areas

Medical and paramedical staff of various government and private hospitals, and nursing colleges celebrated the World Malaria Day by taking out public rallies at several places in Chittoor district on Wednesday.

In the last one year, Chittoor district recorded about a hundred malaria cases, and since January till date this year, there have been fifteen cases. This prompted the district medical and health administration to intensify the campaign against Malaria prevalence particularly in rural areas. As per official records, nearly 100 villages under eight primary health centres in the district had been identified to be vulnerable to Malaria attack.

Senior Medical Officer P. Ravi Raju organised a rally with staff of Government Hospital, through the arterial junctions of Puttur municipality, joined by students of various government and corporate schools.

Addressing a public gathering, Dr Ravi Raju said the medical authorities were alert to the menace and were taking all possible steps to control it. β€œAll the PHCs are equipped with laboratory facilities to diagnose malaria, and hence the public showing symptoms of high fever, sweating and body aches should immediately approach the hospitals,” he said. Also, staff of the District Medical and Health department undertook a rally from district headquarters hospital to Gandhi Bomma circle, passing through the arterial junctions.
