With mining companies continuing to retrench workers, the Dharbandora Truck Owners Association (DTOA) has decided to stage an agitation in Panaji on May 10 along with their family members to exert pressure on the government to help affected workers.

DTOA president Balaji Gauns along with its members including Machindra Dessai held a press briefing in Ponda on Wednesday.

Claiming that the mining companies are retrenching workers everyday and the government seems to be least bothered about it, Gauns said, “People who worked for decades with mining firms are being sacked depriving them and their families of their bread and butter. The government has failed to lay any control over the mining companies who are sacking their employees.”

“Along with sacking of employees, mining companies are also withdrawing healthcare and water tanker facilities in the mining villages and it has made people’s lives worst in past few days,” said Machindra Dessai, a member of DTOA.

Gauns further said that DTOA will approach all the mining dependent organisations and will also hold meeting in the every village against the government who he said has failed to properly handle the mining issue.

“We along with entire family will march in Panaji to pressurise the government to resolve the state’s mining crisis,” he said.
