Filmmaker Mansoor Khan, who directed the famous romantic film ‘Qayamat se Qayamat Tak’ has revealed some new secrets on the 30th anniversary of the film. Featuring Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla in the lead roles, it is still one of the most acclaimed romantic movies of all times. Released in 1988, it was a blockbuster which catapulted Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla to stardom. The plot was a modern-day take on classic tragic romance stories such as Laila and Majnu, Heer and Ranjha and Romeo and Juliet.
Khan said that the film was supposed to initially have a happy ending but looking at the drift of the film, he gave it a sad climax. He said that he shot two sequences for climax of the movie. “Although my father had initially planned to end the movie on a sad note, he seemed sceptical about the climax and asked us to shoot another ending. However, the flow of the movie gave a feeling that there might be some tragedy soon. Hence, I opted to close the movie the way Romeo and Juliet ended,” Mansoor said in a statement.
Also speaking on another incident, Khan said that Juhi had refused to kiss her co-star Aamir on the cheeks and forehead during the filming of the song ‘Akele Hain Toh Kya Gham Hai’. Post her refusal, the director Mansoor Khan had to halt the shoot for about 10 minutes. However, later, Juhi Chawla understood the demand of the script and agreed to kiss Aamir Khan.
Recalling the scene, Khan told a leading daily, “We were shooting the song ‘Akele Hain To Kya Ghum Hai’. I had informed Juhi about a shot where Aamir Khan will lean back and she had to kiss him first on one cheek, then the other cheek and also on his forehead. My assistant later informed me that Juhi is refusing to do the scene. Hearing this, I asked everybody to stop whatever they were doing immediately and just sit down. Ten minutes later, when I was informed that Juhi has agreed to do the scene, we began shooting again.”
