PALM COAST — The driver of a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt who was killed while driving the wrong way on Interstate 95 north of Palm Coast Parkway at 2:15 a.m. April 16 has been identified as Wendell Parker, 32, of Miami, according to a report released Thursday by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Parker was driving north in the inside southbound lane of I-95 when the Cobalt collided with a southbound Hyundai Tucson whose driver was identified Thursday as Cynthia Soto, 35, of Flagler Beach. Soto was listed in critical condition at Halifax Hospital, according to the FHP.

"The vehicles collided head on," Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Michael Quade said the day of the wreck. "The driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt was pronounced dead at the scene."

According to Flagler County Sheriff's Office reports and call records, both vehicles burst into flames and deputies had to pull Parker, who was unconscious, from his burning car. The crash closed the southbound lanes of I-95 for several hours.

It remains unknown whether alcohol might have been a factor in the crash and no charges have been filed while the investigation continues, according to the FHP.
