Bhopal: Commercial activities hit Govindpura industrial area, DIC issues notices

Bhopal: The Govindpura industrial area developed to promote industrial activities is under threat as it is gradually becoming a hub of commercial activities other than manufacturing and Industrial. Some motor vehicle dealers have encroached upon 11 industrial plots and instead of setting up of factories are running other business activities. These people had obtained the industrial plots to run industries, but they are operating motor vehicle showrooms instead.

District Industry and Commerce (DIC) manager Pramod Dixit talking to free press admitted that vehicle showrooms are being running on the industrial plots. The government had developed Govindpura industrial area to set up small and medium scale industries and any other kind of commercial activities are strictly prohibited as it would defeat the very purpose, said Dixit.

However keeping the rules at bay, 11 industrialists have started commercial activities on the industrial plots which is against the lease norms, said the DIC manager. Every lease given in Govindpura area is specified with the industrial activities, he explained.

The DIC had issued lease cancellation notices to the concerned showrooms as they have changed the mode of using the industrial plots, he informed. “When the DIC had served the notices on these showrooms, their administrators had filed appeals at joint director office, at the office of industry commission, government of MP and some had even gone to High Court,” he added.

However, showroom owners have refuted the claim of DIC, the representative of chief proprietor of SM Motors, Chandel on the other hand accused the DIC of creating problems for them. Claiming that the plot is being used for industrial purpose, Chandel said “ Our workshop is being run on the plot, but the DIC officials are creating fuss over it. We had filed a petition in the court against the DIC notice.”
