A 66-year-old Fort Myers man was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after suffering symptoms of a heart attack early Thursday morning.

Alfredo Simon was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, according to a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Simon was rescued from a 90-foot fishing boat 40 miles southwest of Fort Myers Beach.

At 2:44 a.m. Sector St. Petersburg watchstanders received a call via a marine band radio channel reporting Simon was sick. A flight surgeon recommended he be medevaced.

A 45-foot response boat from the U.S. Coast Guard Fort Myers Beach station was launched and transported Simon to the station where the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department waited for Simon. He was then taken to the beach.
