Arunoday Singh: I don’t consider myself any less successful right now

Actor Arunoday Singh’s recent release, the Irrfan-starrer Blackmail, received a positive response from the audience and critics. However, his last few releases, such as and Ungli (2014), Mohenjo Daro (2016), and Buddha In A Traffic Jam, did not perform well at the box office. Despite this, the actor has no regrets about his film choices.

“I do not regret doing even a single film I did. I enjoyed working with every director. If there was any fault in the choices, it was mine. I did the best I could with what I got. I didn’t get launched in the industry. I was not at a point where a wild number of offers were coming my way. You do the best with what you get. That’s your craft as an actor — to continuously find work, even in things which might not be what you need right now,” says Arunoday.

He also reveals that becoming an actor was his dream, and therefore, he is content with whatever is coming his way today.

“It’s hard to think that something went wrong, because this is my life and these are the facts. The fame and all is nice, and I would love to have all of that, but I do not consider myself any less successful right now. I never thought I would get work as an actor, because I thought it was just a child’s dream, yet I am paying every bill as an actor. I think I have done quite well,” says Arunoday, whose filmography also includes hits such as Sonam Kapoor-starrer Aisha (2010) and the Sudhir Mishra directorial, Yeh Saali Zindagi (2011).

Apart from acting, Arunoday is also fond of singing. There were reports of Arunoday making his debut as a singer in the musical The Sound of Music, which was recently staged in Mumbai, but he clears the air.

“This [was] not my debut. My debut was when I sang for Naseeruddin [Shah]’s theatre group Motley in a musical The Threepenny Opera, last year. The Sound of Music happened after that. I think the word ‘debut’ has been erroneously added somewhere. I did sing, but this was not my debut,” he clarifies.
