MANGALURU: The process of cleansing Indian economy and social reforms ushered in by PM
Narendra Modi while per se are not popular and do not fetch votes is indicative of the mindset of a person who is determined to change the country, noted Sambit Patra, national spokesperson of BJP. While the idea of Swachh Bharat and building toilets is not socially upscale idea, nor the idea of demonetization that affected every living Indian, this was the step needed for a better India, he said.
Addressing intelligentsia of this coastal city on Thursday, Patra said the ABC of governance that
Modi has ushered in – where A stands for assertiveness, B for boldness and basics and C for competitiveness – are the keys that will change the country in the long run. Demonetisation is a step that Modi took at the height of his popularity on the back of a huge mandate and at great risk to self-image, but one which he did with a longer interest of the nation in mind, he said.
While Venezuela was forced to roll back a similar step in that oil rich nation, Patra said people of India saw the true intent of Modi and the long term benefits that it has in backing him. Taking potshot at AICC chief
Rahul Gandhi who described GST as ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’, Patra said it pained him when politicians come up with such ridiculous acronyms for a reforms process, which undoubtedly has its teething problems, but one that will benefit India.
The present government has also done away with the status quo attitude and put the accent on quantum jumps in reforms, Patra said adding the
Congress in its pure hatred for Modi does not shy from rubbishing all these achievements, and has no qualms in demeaning the country. This he said with specific reference to a WB report that placed India 42 places ahead in ease of doing business ratings at 100 and one which Congress said was a ‘setting’ of rankings.
To a question about why Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi are still not behind bars in corruption cases, Patra said the due process of law will catch up with them. “Congress has a habit of celebrating corruption as was seen when they walked out of Patiala House court complex after deposing before the court in the National Herald case,” he said adding Congress which dares BJP to investigate their alleged cases, cries vendetta when the government actually does so.
