Bhopal: You should have checked about college before opting for it, says DME Commissioner to students

Bhopal: “You will not get anything by protesting and moving here and there. You should have checked whereabouts of the college before opting for it…,” is what the DME Commissioner Shiv Shekar Shukla had to say to the delegation of protesting students of Advanced Institute of Medical Science on Wednesday.

Five representatives of the protesting students met the officer on Wednesday. Over 100 students have been staging sit-in for last three days braving the heat demanding the government to shift them to another medical institute.

DME Ulka Srivastava on his part told the students’ delegation that the administration doesn’t have the power to act on their issue. Though the students claimed that they have complained against the institute management many times in the last six months, the DME reportedly told that she was not well aware of their issues.

The two officials however assured the students to see what could be done in the matter but they didn’t specify ant time. A protesting student claimed that the commissioner did not know about the institute and asked the students where it is situated. Meanwhile, a girl student fainted during the protest on Monday at Board Officer Square. Blazing Sun is sparing none, while one protestor lost consciousness and other students also complained of nausea and headache. The ailing student was given medical aid.

Even the soaring mercury has not deterred these students as they continued their stir hoping that the authorities might come up with some concrete action plan other than assurances. Our career is as stake as our Institute is on verge of closure, teachers have left, no classes are being conducted, labs are closed, hospital sealed, lamented a protesting student.

It seems the authorities have become deaf and dumb, no one is addressing our issues, added another student. The protesting students tried to breach the security cordon of Governor Anandiben Patel, while her car cavalcade was passing through the board office. The students flagged their placards before the Governor’s convoy.
