Otto Warmbier's Parents Sue North Korea Over His Death

Otto Warmbier’s parents are suing North Korea, multiple news outlets report.??????Warmbier, an American college student, was imprisoned in North Korea for 17 month and returned home in a comatose state with severe brain damage.??????Warmbier died at the age of 22, just six days after he was evacuated from North Korea, ABC News reports.??????He was taken into custody in 2016 after he allegedly tried to steal a propaganda poster from a restricted area while visiting the country.??????His parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against North Korea, stating their son was ‘ brutally tortured and murdered’ by the country, according to the Hill. ??????A corner ruled that Warmbier died of a lack of blood and oxygen to his brain due to an unknown injury.

North Korea has denied torturing him. ??????The Washington Post reports the White House is supportive of the lawsuit but did not have a role in drafting it.??????Otto Warmbier’s father, Fred Warmbier said in a statement the lawsuit is another step in holding North Korea accountable for it’s barbaric treatment of his son and their family, ABC News reports.??????The lawsuit comes only a month or two before President Donald Trump is set to have a potential summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.??
