Take up demands with panel: Minister

With members of the Secondary Grade Seniority Teachers Association (SSTA) refusing to call off their protest seeking to resolve certain pay anomalies, School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan on Wednesday urged them to give up the strike and take up their demands with the one-man committee constituted by the State government.

The Minister, in a statement, said that only the committee could recommend to settle the pay anomalies.

“Moreover, a petition over the revision of pay to the second grade teachers is pending before the Madras High Court. Hence, I request all the protesting teachers to kindly call off their hunger strike,” he said.

Ramadoss flays govt.

Meanwhile, PMK founder S. Ramadoss criticised the high-handed manner in which the State government has responded to the protest. “The teachers have been providing education without any discrimination. So, there shouldn’t be any discrimination in their salaries as well.”
