SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) April 26, 2018

On May 5th, uBiome, the leader in microbial genomics, will be sponsoring SF Take Steps, hosted by the Northern California Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, for the second consecutive year. Funds raised at the event will be used to support research efforts in developing effective treatments for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn's and ulcerative colitis. Since its inception in 2008, Take Steps has raised more than $85 million to improve the lives of those affected by these diseases.

“uBiome is delighted to sponsor SF Take Steps once again and support the great work of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation to help fundraising efforts for IBD research,” said Jessica Richman, PhD, co-founder and CEO of uBiome. “As leaders in the industry, we continue to advance the science of the microbiome, and support other researchers who are doing the same.”

According to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, approximately 1.6 million Americans suffer with IBD. The makeup of an individual’s gut microbiome may be associated with the onset of these diseases, as well as the severity of the symptoms. uBiome, whose mission is to transform the science of the microbiome into useful products and services that improve people’s lives, has developed key technologies that allow the company to make groundbreaking products that tackle a wide range of health conditions. SmartGut™, launched in 2016, was formulated to empower individuals to take steps toward understanding their gut health and assess actionable information about their gut microbiome. Sponsoring SF Take Steps is just one of many ways in which uBiome demonstrates its continuous involvement in patient advocacy.

“We are grateful to have so many distinguished sponsors once again this year, supporting Take Steps, and helping us raise funds and awareness on behalf of the approximately 1.6 million Americans affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease,” said Harriet Patterson, Executive Director of the Northern California Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

uBiome will have a booth on-site, as well as the uBiome walking team, who will be joined by members of the extended uBiome community. The event is open to the public and check-in begins at 10:00 a.m. For more details or to join the uBiome Team at SF Take Steps, please visit: http://online.ccfa.org/goto/teamubiome
