While lauding the Centre for passing the ordinance to amend the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act to grant death penalty to the guilty of rape of children under 12, the Minister of State for women welfare and child development with independent charge Rekha Arya said  at her office in the Assembly premises on Wednesday that the age limit of the victims should be extended from 12 years to 14 years.  “We are happy over the step the Centre has taken in view of the alarming spike in the rape of the minors across the country. However, many feel that the age limit of the victims of such heinous crimes should be raised by two years from 12 to 14 to bring more of the guilty  under its provisions,” she added.
