Germany anticipates May 1 start for U.S.-imposed steel tariffs: reports

Germany expects that tariffs on steel and aluminum imported from the European Union to the U.S. will begin on May 1, according to reports Thursday. The EU had won a temporary reprieve from the tariffs proposed by the Trump administration, which said in March the moves were aimed at protecting the U.S. steel industry. The plan is for a 25% tariff on steel imports, and a 10% levy on aluminum. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is scheduled to talk to U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday in Washington during a one-day working trip for Germany's leader.
