PANAJI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded that the Goa electricity department grant compensation to the bereaved family of line helper Devidas Velip who was electrocuted at Curdi-Vadem in Sanguem on Wednesday.
Highlighting the issues of negligence and lack of respect to the common people in the state, the party has demanded that power minister Pandurang Madkaikar focus on adopting safety measures for linesmen rather than granting extensions to retired engineers, including the department’s chief electrical engineer.

AAP’s Quepem leader Patricia Fernandes said that she feared the authorities would bury the matter as the victim is a common man.

Velip is survived by his wife and three young children.
