Following raids on premises, jeweller jumps off DRI building in Delhi, dies

New Delhi: Following a raid at his store and residence, a Delhi-based jeweller allegedly committed suicide after jumping off from the sixth floor of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) building in the national capital on April 26 (Thursday) at 12 noon.

The jeweller was identified as Gaurav Gupta.

Officials present at the at the CGO complex immediately shifted Gupta, who was lying in a pool of blood, to Safdarjung Hospital but he was declared brought dead.

DRI officials said the man was neither summoned nor arrested after the raid. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the case.

The DRI said in a release, “A total of Rs 13 crore smuggled goods were seized from Gupta’s possession. But unfortunately, the owner of the smuggled goods jumped through the window of the visitor’s room at around 12 noon. He was neither summoned nor arrested by the DRI. The person was immediately taken to the Safdarjung Hospital by officers of DRI and CISF of CGO complex, but his life could not be saved.”

Following Gupta’s death his wife, Stuti Gupta, has written a letter to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shalimar Bagh to take stringent action against DRI official Nishant and his team. Stuti has alleged that Gaurav was murdered by the said DRI officials.

Further investigation is on.
