KOLKATA: The
panchayat polls in West Bengal will be held in a single phase on May 14, according to the sources. The
state election commission will issue a statement in this regard as per the state government's proposal.
The
re-election will be held on May 16 while counting of votes will be done the very next day on May 17.
Earlier the
West Bengal government had asked the commission to hold the polls before Ramadan, but the commission wanted to hold them in two phases.
The opposition has also targeted the commission over the issue by questioning the logic behind holding polls for more than 20 thousand plus booths on a single day.
