Kavitha wants specialist doctors appointed

2,250 deliveries take place at Government hospitals

Member of Parliament K. Kavitha has asked authorities to initiate steps to appoint specialist doctors including gynaecologists, radiologists and anaesthetists on outsourced or contract basis immediately.

Appointment of specialist doctors at community health centres was a must to promote more institutional deliveries reducing the burden of medical expenses on the people. Every primary health centre must have a medical officer, she felt while conducting a review on the medical and health department here on Wednesday.

She suggested to DM and HO J. Venkat to send medical officers on deputation basis to Govindpet, Binola and Ergatla as the construction of PHC buildings was over with the 13th Finance Commission funds. She also asked them to take steps to ensure the regular attendance of medical officers and staff at the PHCs as reports over their absence was coming regularly.

People had a lot of hopes on the improvement of medical services at Government hospitals with the increase in outpatient number over a period of time. β€œLet us not dash their hopes. Instead provide required services without fail,” she said.

Ms. Kavitha instructed medical authorities to appoint a woman doctor at the Bheemgal PHC, as woman patients found it difficult to explain their problems to others. She suggested setting up of a post-mortem facility at Morthad PHC if possible.

Since about 100 medicos were doing house surgency at Government Medical College their services could be used at different places, she said.

District Collector M. Ram Mohan Rao said in the district 9 medical officer posts were vacant and efforts were on to fill them soon. He said 2,250 deliveries were taking place at Government hospitals every month and they would increase further.

To prevent the arrival of more delivery cases to Government General Hospital here community hospitals at Balkonda, Morthad, Dichpally, Navipet and Varni were improvised, he explained.

Local MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta and Joint Collector A. Ravinder Reddy were also present.
