Civilian killed in militant attack in south Kashmir’ Anantnag

The incident comes a day after a political worker of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and formerly with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Congress, was shot dead in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A civilian was killed during an attack by militants on security forces in south Kashmir’ Anantnag district on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

Shakeeb Shabir was hit when militants, travelling in a car, fired upon a road opening party comprising police and Central Reserve Police Force or CRPF personnel.

A police official at the police control room in Shopian confirmed that Shabir, aged around 25 years, succumbed to his bullet injuries.

“Terrorists traveling in a Santro car fired upon the ROP of Police and 116 Bn of CRPF at Lazibal Chowk, Anantnag in which a civilian identified as Shakeeb Shabir of Shopian was injured,” a police spokesperson earlier said.

He added that a high alert was sounded and a massive manhunt was launched to trace the car and the attackers.
