“I was very proud of the way we defended as a team and absorbed pressure from Dan River on the counterattack,” said first year Govs head coach Silas Turner. “I was also very impressed by the confidence of freshman Tyler Widdifield to come off the bench and score.”

Keeper Dennis Saunders locked down the goal with the shutout and three saves.

“I am proud of the growth and maturity of the back four who are all underclassmen. The three midfielders have gelled as a unit and control the game with and without possession,” said Turner.” The three attackers have been able to generate a lot of opportunities from direct counterattacking as well as tight passing combinations through the wings.  Another area we have made significant improvement is on finishing set pieces. This is critical in breaking closely matched games.”

Turner said he is reminded every game about how often it comes down to one moment or play and how important it is to stay composed and disciplined over the full 80 minutes.
