Ujjain: 7-day Bhaas Mahotsav begins with staging Sanskrit play ‘Madhyam Vyayog’


Ujjain: The seven-day Sanskrit drama festival Bhaas Mahotsava was inaugurated at Kalidas Sanskrit Academy here on Monday evening. On the first day, Sanskrit drama “Madhyam Vyayog” was staged in the crowded auditorium at Abhirang Natyragrah. Sanskrit plays are being staged by various institutions for seven days under the festival.

The first evening of the Bhaas Mahotsav was named for the Sanskrit drama “Madhyam Vyayog”. The drama was staged after lighting the traditional lamp. Institution secretary Mahesh Sharma said that former district and sessions judge Shashimohan Shrivastava, Kalidas Sanskrit Academy director in-charge Pratibha Dave, art critic Ashok Vaqt delivered their speeches on the contribution of great poet Bhaas.

Subsequently, drama Madhyam Vyayog was presented by the Bhaas Sanskrait Evam Samajik Sansthan under the direction of Mahesh Sharma. In the drama, artists Yuvraj Singh Chavda was anchor and roles of Brahmin was played by Suryadev Olhan, Brahmani by Disha Bhatnagar, son by Vaibhav Parmar, Yuktesh Geewarikar, Rishi Yogi, Ghatotkacha by Ishaan Menon, Bhim by Shubham Mishra and Hidimba by Kumkum Prajapat. Music composer was Shailendra Chauhan, Pankaj Acharya was stage decorer, light arrangements were made by Rajendra Chavda, garment configuration was made by Nandan Chavda and Shailendra Verma was comparer.


In the play, the audience was very impressed by the role of Ghatotkach and his mother Hidimba and Bhim. Sanskrit pla “Kumar Sambhavam” will be staged under the next presentation on Tuesday evening at the same venue.
