Resolve issues of Mumbai slums on Centre's land: CM to Rajnath

MUMBAI: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged the Centre to resolve all the issues pertaining to the slums on central government land in Mumbai so that they can be rehabilitated.
Fadnavis was attending the 23rd meeting of the western zonal council in Gandhinagar where Union home minister Rajnath Singh was also present.

There are 11 central government departments like Railways, Customs, Army, Navy which possess 517 acre area on which slums have been constructed in Mumbai.

Currently there are issues with the redevelopment of these slums as it requires the central government to give its consent.

Fadnavis also gave a presentation of slum redevelopment under the Prime Minister's Housing For All scheme.

Under the scheme, the state government has decided to offer housing to slum dwellers with a proof of residence upto 2011, at a concessional cost.

Officials said that Singh has that he will convene a meeting on the issue with the Fadnavis and the officials of the state government and solve the issues to speed up the redevelopment process.
