NEW DELHI: Gains in Nalco (up 3.24 per cent), JSW Steel (up 2.18 per cent) and Hindalco Industries (up 1.19 per cent) were keeping the Nifty Metal index up during afternoon trade on Thursday.

The Nifty Metal index was trading 0.30 per cent up at 3,747 around 2:10 pm (IST).

However, stocks such as Jindal Steel & Power (up 0.30 per cent), Vedanta (up 0.09 per cent) and MOIL (up 0.02 per cent) were choppy.

On the other hand, Steel Authority of India (SAIL) (down 1.93 per cent), Hindustan Zinc (down 1.56 per cent), APL Apollo Tubes (down 1.10 per cent), NMDC (down 1.00 per cent), Hindustan Copper (down 0.80 per cent), Jindal Stainless (Hisar) (down 0.53 per cent) and Tata Steel (down 0.38 per cent) were down around the same time.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 15 points at 10,585, while the BSE Sensex was up 99 points at 34,600.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 25 were trading in the green, while 25 were in the red.

YES Bank, TCS, IndusInd Bank, Infosys and Hindalco were among the top gainers in the Nifty index.

However, Bharti Infratel, Wipro, HPCL, Larsen & Toubro and Bajaj Finserv were among the top losers in the Nifty pack.
