Accused ‘escapes’ from custody while undergoing treatment at GMC, gets bail

The Agassaim police informed that they succeeded in tracing Aleixo Pereira (56), a resident of Utorda, after he escaped from their legal custody while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim on Wednesday.

Police inspector Santosh Dessai said that Pereira was admitted at ward 144 of the  GMC Hospital, Bambolim, following a complaint of chest pain after his arrest in connection with the case that was reported in the year 2015 in Verna police station jurisdiction, registered under sections 504, 506 of Indian Penal Code, sections 3 and 25 of Arms Act and Goa Children’s Act.  The accused was in police custody after his arrest on April 12 by the Verna police, Dessai added.

“Pereira escaped from the legal custody while undergoing treatment at the GMC Hospital at around 10.30 am, but was traced at around 12.30 pm at the hospital premises itself by the Agassaim police,” said the police inspector. Incidentally, Pereira was granted bail by the Children’s Court, Panaji, in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Verna police arrested Pereira for escaping from their custody, under section 224 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), on Wednesday evening. He was later released on bail.
