Christo Wiese (and all rich people, I guess) just doesn't get it.
It's not the people's perverse obsession with the rich - it's the rich's perverse obsession with money and power. The more they get, the more they want.
How much is enough? How many billions do you need or can you spend in your lifetime? Or even your kids in theirs.
There is only so much wealth in a country. The more you have, the less others will have. And the more perverse your greed gets, the poorer others become.
This rolls over to politicians - unfortunately most politicians become politicians because of a desire for power - not servitude to the people, as it should be.
Then both the rich and politicians start believing that they are above the rest and deserving of the elitist lifestyle they've created for themselves. And the more they get ... the more they want. Why? Because money and power are no different than drugs. Addiction is addiction.
Mr Wiese, (and all rich people) share your wealth with the people of South Africa. Become a philanthropist and use it to uplift the very poor who are poor because you are rich. Remember what Jesus said: "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven". I'm sure he said that for this very reason.
Politicians, don't get into politics to chase power and wealth. If that's what you want, go into business. Then become a philanthropist. Only become a politician if you really want to serve your country and its people. We have had enough of politicians interested only in themselves and mindless rhetoric.
We need rich people who give back and we need politicians who care about the people. The rest of them, we don't need or want.
